how are republicanism and represenative democracy similar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A republic is a type of government where every single person has a say in the government. The Roman Empire had a republic form of government. Respresentative democracy is close to what we have in America. (We're technically a Constitutional Republic.) It is where the people elect other people to represent them. Unlike a republic, where everyone has a say and the minority groups are protected, representative democracy basically puts all the power in the hands of the majority. (Not talking about race. Say 90% of our population is Republican, and 10% is Democratic. Basically, everything the Republicans want they will get, and the Democrats will have little say in the government since their vote will be overridden by the majority.)
