With replacement and without replacement

OpenStudy (kropot72):

If the batteries are selected with replacement, there are 6 ways of selecting the first battery and there are also 6 ways of selecting the second battery. Therefore there are 6 * 6 = 36 possible outcomes. If the batteries are selected without replacement, there are 6 ways of selecting the first battery and there are 5 ways of selecting the second battery. Therefore there are 6 * 5 = 30 possible outcomes.
