There are no particular number of medals required to get 99 Smart Score, all the fields play equal role in determine a smart score of an user :

\(\large\mathsf{\color{blue}{\underline{i)Teamwork }}}\): Teamwork score reflects your ability to build relationships, communicate, and collaborate. If you have more fans and if you are very active on OS like in chatting , fanning others and also helping others, then you will have a comparatively good teamwork score.

\(\large\mathsf{\color{blue}{\underline{ii)Problem Solving }}}\): The Problem Solcing score reflects your ability to help others, explain concepts, and craft solutions. If you have helped users very nicely, and you have got medals (which are the signs of your good help and good responses) from the users as well as from asker, then you will have comparatively higher Problem Solving Score. But remember, it will be better if you more involve with the asker rather then just giving a whole solution to the askeer and leaving the question to move on the next, this doesn't increase your Problem Solving Score in that way it would have been if you have involved with the asker and tried to solve his/her doubts!

\(\large\mathsf{\color{blue}{\underline{iii)Engagement}}}\) : The Engagement Score reflects your dedication and engagement when learning on OpenStudy. How much you engage yourself with dedication in the questions asked by you or any other user. The main point being, the dedication with which you engage yourself while learning on OpenStudy. More you ask questions and seek for help, NOT FOR ANSWERS, more you will gain Engagement Score points, though the thing which matters much more is engagement in the quest. with dedication !

Medals only boost problem solving.
The thing is, it's about the ratio of total medals given and medals from the asker of a question. When you answer a question and the asker gives you a medal, your "medals for answers" increases. When medals for answers is close to the total medals, your smartscore increases way faster. lets say you have 1000 total medals and only 100 medals for asking. Someone else has 500 total medals and 400 medals for asking, This person's problem solving will have a higher score eventhough you have more medals.
