2. The three major monotheistic religions are sometimes described as branches of the same family tree. If this is true, how would you describe the trunk of the tree?

All three religions trace their origins to Abraham, father of Isaac and Ishmael. Issac is said to be the father of the Judaism, and Ishmael the father of Islam. All that's in Genesis. Then Christianity split off from Judaism. And, of course, that's the New Testament.
