What is the difference between (), [ ], or the | |???

OpenStudy (askme12345):

() means the number inside aren't included, [] means they are and | | is absolute value. example: (5,9) everything between 5 and 9 is included but 5 and 9 are not [5,9] everything is included including 5 and 9

Ok thank you. For some reason I'm having a hard time with the order of operations.... I can't seem to remember how to do it

OpenStudy (askme12345):

order of operations = pemdas parenthesis, exponent, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you go left to right?

OpenStudy (askme12345):

start with parenthesis end with subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok and fractions for order of operations?

OpenStudy (askme12345):

what are u do doing with the fraction? the operation that you are doing with the fraction determines it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok it's hard to write it on here. The line is... -2(-7)+8(2). Bottom -2(4-5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would you just solve each line the divide?

OpenStudy (askme12345):

yes. so for the top -2(-7) + 8(2) is 14+16=30 bottom is -2(4-5) is -2 times -1 = 2 so your answer is 30/2 which is 15
