A hiker sets out for a campsite located 11.0 km north. After an hour of hiking due north at a constant pace, the hiker spots a grizzly bear in the forest; and, out of fear, begins speeding up with a constant acceleration of 20 m/s2 north. He continues this acceleration until he reaches the campsite. When the hiker reaches the campsite, his pace has doubled. a). Make three qualitative plots showing the hiker’s acceleration, velocity, and position as a function of time. b). How far from the campsite was the hiker when he spotted the bear?

interesting question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand part A but i don't have any idea for part b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for the 2nd part I would do this \[d=1/2at^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so an hour has 3600 sec in it so you end up with \[d=.5(20 \frac{m}{s^2})(3600 s)^2\] after you work it out check your units, you can see the sec cancel and you end up with m so it is probably right
