I need a good introduction for my essay: It is about Why many settlers died in Early Jamestown.
Disease
Talk about the diseases mainly coming from the swamps.
I am supposed to write all the reasons; e.g. Brackish water and lack of skilled workers but how can I start out my essay so it would seem interesting?
Structure your introductory paragraph like this: 1. Attention getter or hook 2. Road map 3. Thesis statement Here is what all that means: Attention getter or hook - Start off with something that is going to grab the reader's attention and get them to want to keep reading. A really interesting and relevant statistic is usually a pretty good hook, especially if it is something that is not very well known. Quotes can be good too or an emotional statement. Keep it brief. Not more than three sentences. Road map - The road map is where you tell the reader what they are about to read. This is where you introduce your three main points. Again, keep it brief. You will have time to explain thoroughly in the body of your paper. Thesis statement - This is ONE sentence that introduces your angle. It points the reader in the direction that you are going and tells them the purpose of your paper. It also points YOU in the direction. Stay on track with your thesis when writing your body. Don't stray from it. If you find that you do have to stray or that your opinion has changed, go back and revise your thesis statement.
Thanks :)
