The Byzantine Empire fluctuated throughout time. It reached its peak under Justinian I. in 527 CE – 565 CE. From 750 A.D to 1400 A.D, the empire declined. Rebuilding Constantinople after the Nika riots, and the reconstruction of the Hagia Sophia, which costs 320,000 pounds of gold. His army was thin and scattered across the empire fighting Nomads such as the Lombards. The Bubonic Plague lead to the death of many civilians, people in the government, and weakened his military. He also rewrote roman law.
