All of the following are equivalent, except _____. 8x + 3x (8 + 3)x 11x 11x²

OpenStudy (anonymous):

none of them are equivilent from what i can tell...

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I know A and B and C are equivalent. The answer is D.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Do you know how to combine like terms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh duh. i was substituting numbers for x. im so dumb lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really. I am not the best at it.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Okay, well it is simple in this equation. 8x + 3x. So first, know which numbers have the same variable...in this case 8 and 3. Now forget about the variable and 8 and 3. That would be 11. Now add the x and it would be 11x. Now you will know this is true because 11x is x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x and 8x + 3x is also x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x + x*x*x, which is the same.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Do you understand? I want you to understand well because it will get harder later and it is better to understand at least the simpler questions now to at least make the harder questions later a little bit easier.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have a better outlook on it now. Thank you so much @kewlgeek555

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

You are very welcome. It is a pleasure. :-)
