This is because Lenina had only been seeing him for the past few months, whereas in their society, it was appropriate and common for women to be promiscuous. Seeing the same man for long periods of time could lead to a build-up of more intimate emotions, which is strongly frowned upon by all the citizens. In their world, they believe that 'everybody belongs to everybody', in that noone should stay attached to only one partner, but instead be free to go out with anybody they choose to.
