tell whether each percent change is an increase or decrease. Then find the percent change. Round to the nearest percent. original amount: 25 new amount: 18

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Do you at least know what it is? Increase/decrease?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. My teacher hasn't taught this yet. but jus to guess I'd say a decrease

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Good, that's right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok great. What do I do now

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Okay, so you know how 1 is 4% of 100?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

*4% of 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's basically just the difference of the two values divided by the original value.

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

What's difference from 25 to 18?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@JonathanHocker ok set up the equation then

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

So 7*4%=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

28

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Yup, so if I'm not mistaken, then the percentage of decrease is 28%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok how did u get the 4 ?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

What times 25 equals 100?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o I jus divide the og amount by 100 everytime ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*so

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

To determine the percent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so can u check one I jus did ?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Original amount: 178 New amount: 136 Decrease 178 - 136 42(1.78) = 75% ---- 42

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so is it right

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

You have to find the difference first, then divide by the original, then multiply by 100

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

It was a decrease of 23.6%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so divide 42 by 136 ?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

by 178

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I got 4.23 then multiplied by 100 and got 423%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh nvm I divided 178 by 42 instead of 42 divided by 178. I got .23 multiplied by 100 and I get 230

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*23

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

Yup, so 23% decrease

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank u
