Five students are lining up to give speeches One student must go first as he has to leave early How many different speech orders are possible?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

You have 4 students (ignore the first one that has to go first) and they are arranged in 4 slots So you have 4 choices for slot 2 you have 3 choices for slot 3 you have 2 choices for slot 4 you have 1 choices for slot 5 multiply these numbers out to get: 4*3*2*1 = 24
