It would be nice if next time it was one question per question it is easier to answer that way. What was the main reason the Southern states felt that they needed to secede? The main reason for Southern states to secede is slaves, back then the south needed slaves to be profitable otherwise the south would have to raise prices for cotton and thus making them lose a lot of business. Slaveholders believed if they did not secede that they would lose their property which was a violation of the fifth amendment I believe. (Slaves were regarded as property back then.)
