can someone explain to me how to solve this question The measure of the supplement of an angle is 25% more than 7 times the measure of the angle. To the nearest hundredth, what is the measure of the angle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i really dont know how to solve this problem and this is algebra 2

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Well, supplemental angles add up to 180*. so let your angle be x. Write an expression for the supplement in terms of x. You know that "The measure of the supplement of an angle is 25% more than 7 times the measure of the angle" So if x is the angle, then what is 7 times x? Now, what is 25% MORE than 7 times x? (Keep in mind: you can write "25% more than a" as 1.25a). Now, once you have your expression for the supplement, you ADD that to x and set it all equal to 180. Solve for x, and you have the original angle, which is what is asked for. :)

thank you so much :D

you're welcome :)
