Okay I'll help you :) here's what my books says: The late Zhou Dynasty also saw the birth of a philosophy that contradicts Confucianism in some ways and complements it in others. Tradition holds that this philosophy called, Daoism, was founded by a philosopher known as Laozi, who may have never existed. Legend says that Laozi once met Confucius. When Confucius spoke about the importance of revering the ancestors and keeping up their ways, Laozi responded dismissively, "The bones of the men you are speaking of have long since turned to dust." By implying that it made no sense to follow tradition, Laozi was presenting a view at odds with Confucianism. So yes, they both do conflict with each other.

for citing resources, my history book is: "World History: Our Human Story", edited by Patricia O'Connell Pearson and John Holdren, Chapter 5: Classical India and China, 7th paragraph titled "Daoism". If you need any more help on this subject or any others I am always here :) I love history and have a huge book to back me up lol

So yeah.. The difference between Confucianism and Daoism is that Confucius focused more on how people should live and act in this world, with mannerisms and obedience. Daoism was not concerned with an individuals place in society but more interested in having a place in nature and the universe. Daoism is about having harmony with yourself and your surroundings. But overall Daoism provided Chinese culture with an important "balance" to Confucian ideals.
