Help with step functions?

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

I need step by step (no pun intended) help with this please? c:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All you have to do is graph the function where x is between -4 and 4

OpenStudy (lifeisadangerousgame):

Yes I know, but when I create the table of values, where do I start?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Youll always have line segments one unit in length. Every number between 0 and 1 is a line, every number between 1 and 2 is a line, every number between 2 and 3 is a line, all climbing upwards. So in a regular step x function, you start at 0 with a solid circle. Every decimal number up until 1 will just go in a straight line. As soon as you hit 1, you draw an open circle at the end of your current line and you jump up to the point (1,1), draw another solid circle and go another unit in length. Its a repeating pattern of solid circle, line of 1 unit length, open circle, jump up. So itll look something like this. Ill leave the full accurate graph up to you to do. |dw:1379803503887:dw|
