what does 2x + 5x=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that a plus or division can not tell

OpenStudy (anonymous):

plus

OpenStudy (loser66):

2 cookies + 5 cookies = ? cookies

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so you add 5 and 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhhm 5 cookies no no no my bad. 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you should have 7x sinve the variable is the same but if it is 2b + 2a the answer will not be 4a you know?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 2x + 5x = 7x

OpenStudy (debbieg):

These are "like terms" because they are both muliples of x. You add like terms by adding the coefficients. Another way to think of it, is that you can "factor out" the x: 2x + 5x=x(2+5)=x*7=7x

ok thanks you guys. I thought that I was the only one that new that. My friend is really stupid, he said 45 - _-

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

How did he get 45? Maybe he can tell you how, then you can correct him so he understands it.
