What made Aristotle's idea of matter differ from that of scientists?

In the relation to the belief of Greek philosopher Democritus, scientists have proven that matter consists of tiny, indivisible, unchangeable particles called atoms. Aristotle challenged Democritus’s ideas, as they were not proven through scientific method, but based merely off of hypothesis.
