An electric field is a field through which electric current passes. It's a theoretical explanation, you can't see it, but you can prove the existence of an electric field mathematically by observing the electric phenomena.
When an electron flows it generates a field to make electric current.Most basically, That is the electric field.

Actually electron generates electric field through and around of it's motion path. Thus, there are electric fields everywhere from atomic level to huge macroscopic level. There is also electric field in light which is perpendicular to magnetic field to create electromagnetic field.
And, we see the light is actually electromagnetic field.
