Writing 15 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am trying to write an APA reference for an online program called My Virtual Child. This is what I have so far: Manis, F. (2008). MyVirtualChild [computer software]. University of Southern California: Pearson Education. I do not know what to put for computer software, I cannot find a location for publication other than USC, and I am not sure how to format the title of the program.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

It looks okay unless the software is downloadable from a website. If the software is available for download, replace the USC: Pearson part with Available from http://whateverwebsite As for software title formatting, it is a little different than with books. Books you only capitalize the first word of the title, the first word of a subtitle, and proper nouns regardless of how the original work was capitalized. With software you capitalize the title exactly the way that it is capitalized by the publisher.

Thank you for your help. Do you know if I am just supposed to leave "computer software" in the brackets, or if I need to put a specific type of software or something in there?

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

No. [computer software] is correct.

Thanks!
