-5x + 7 > 42 omg help please now which oneee? A. x > 245 B. x > -175 C. x > 7 D. x > -7
Add 5x to both sides: 7 > 5x + 42 Subtract 42 from both sides: 7 - 42 > 5x -(42 - 7) > 5x -(40 + 2 - 7) > 5x -(33 + 2) > 5x -35 > 5x Divide both sides by 5 -35/5 > x -7 > x
thinking of it his way might be easier --- get the same answer but for a first step subract 7 from both sides to get -5x > 35 which means 5 x's something is greater than 35....so it will have to be some kind of negative number because only -5 * some other negative number will be positive and any negative number would have to less then 35 divide both sides by 5 will get you -x > 7 to make it easier to read move the negative sign to the other side which changes the direction of the sign....x<-7 so any x that is less than -7 will work....check work will -10 work? yes done
I never agreed with the philosophy of dividing by negatives and flipping signs.
dude idk but which answer is it i dont get it
None of those answer choices are correct.
i think u r just wrong
@kantalope and I both got the same answer. x < -7
I usually don't go for reversing the signs either...but the opposite of the x that is bigger than 7 rough
so whats the answer lol?
@kantalope, do you agree with any of the answer choices?
a. won't work -1225 + 7 is not greater than 42 b. is no good 0 is more than -175 for instance and -5*0 + 7 is not greater than 42 c. won't work 10 is greater than 7 ...-5(10) = -50 + 7 = -43 that is not greater than 42 d. won't work either for the same reason that b won't work
if the sign is backwards on d...then d is exactly what @Hero and I have
@kantalope, none of the answer choices are correct. D is not correct.
as written none of the choices are correct
