check my work please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question is: solve the system by substitution -4.5x - 2y = -12.5 3.25x - y =-0.75

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and my answer is : 3.25x -y = -0.75 y= 3.25x+00.75 so substitute -4.5x - 2(3.25x + 0.75) = -12.5 and then distribute the -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then you get -4.5 - 6.5x + 2.43 = -12.5 -11x + 2.43 = -12.5 -2.43 on both sides so -11x= -14.93 and then divide by 11 so x = 1.35

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and to get y you just put it back in so 3.25(1.35) + 0.75 and y = 5.13

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

oh my, I see a mistake there :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is it :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not very good at this :(

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

No worries, we all make mistakes, I see it when you distribute de (-2) on 0.75. The result is -1.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the mistake??? i dont undrestand is 1.5 supposed to be the answer

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

-4.5x - 2(3.25x + 0.75) = -12.5 and then distribute the -2 You'll end with: 4.5 - 6.5x -1.5= -12.5 Take over from there :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhhhhhh so 3 - 6.5x= -12.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -6.5x= 15.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i still got 2.38

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then for y i got 8.4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that correct

OpenStudy (owlcoffee):

it is correct, yes :)
