when asked to graph, how do I know which axis is which variable?

|dw:1379902293606:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so when i am asked make a graph of G versus n, which is on the x and y axis?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Independent variable goes on the horizontal axis. Independent is the controlled variable, or the one you're choosing values for.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would assume G would be the x and n would be the y so instead of (x,y) it would by (G,n)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am doing a fishery problem and G is the growth rate while n is the population. so n is the independent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am i correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, the population is independent as it does not change therefore it would be (n,G)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

meaning the n values are the x axis right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Yeah, population would be the independent i'd guess .. growth rate will depend on it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you both :)
