So you want to isolate the variable to one side. The first thing you could do would be to add 1 to each side to get rid of the 1 on the right side. This would give you 11.5 = 3n. After that you want n alone so you divide by 3 on each side to get rid of the 3 on the right side. You will have 10.5/3=n
