Find the equation of the line that is perpendicular to the line x=1 and contains the point (-2,9).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the slope relationships with perpendicular lines?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the slope to x = 1 (very simple - dont think too hard on this)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Opposite reciprocals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would the slope be zero?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hint: x = 1 is a vertical line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so with m =0 perpendicular m = 0 so with point (-2,9) what is the new line... if you can see it great if not use y -y1 = m(x-x1)

Thanks! I just confused myself and wasn't sure :)
