There are 384 nails in a 16-ounce jar. How many nails are there per ounce in the jar? a. 12 b. 6,144 c. 0.0417 d. 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

384 nails / 16 ounces = 24 nails / ounce

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thinking in terms of units helps, you are going nails per ounce which is nails divided by ounces, so do that with numbers.

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

you are just simplifying the fraction, or putting it in decimal form \[\frac{384nails}{16 ounces} = \frac{24 nails}{1ounce}\] so for every 24 nails you have one ounce

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

they dont write the one under the fraction because it is assumed to be there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24?

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

yes but remember to include units

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

otherwise your answer is meaningless and you will lose marks :S
