Briefly explain with equations how antacids work? e.g: Tums
all i know about antacids is, they try to balance acidity in stomach..maintaining a specific pH...specifically on empty stomach, acids are produced in excessive amount..which can't be handled by it..that's where we suffer heatburn...so we take antacids to maintain normal pH level....Did you google it?
yh but wasn't successful in finding the answer, and also i need some equation as i answer this q'.
ohky...i don't study chem anymore..i m sure someone'll come by..so good luck
oh thankx , how come u dont study chem now ?
well i m EE guy
ahan
@Frostbite
I don't know, but I have the good idea that it might be a buffer. You know they work right? If it is not a buffer I gonna do some google search.
how they work right?*
yh but u have to answer using equations
Well set up some equations with buffer solutions and calculate the pH?
Try look at this system (attachment) add some HCL: 4,0 ml 0.25 M calculate the change in pH after that try do the same, but in water and calculate the change in pH. are they different?
w8! whts the role of pH here ? werent we were looking for how antacids work?
Yea that is what I say, I believe that antacids are drugs that work as buffers... AKA we look at how buffers work :)
