Algebra 2 Help? One multiple choice question. Thank you :) What is the equation of the line perpendicular to the line y=4/9x -2 that passes through the point (4,3)? A) y= -4/9x - 2 B) y= 9/4x + 6 C) y= -9/4x +12 D) y= -9/4x -12

OpenStudy (otonogold):

I think it is A ?

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

First: a perpendicular line must have a slope which is the negative reciprocal (ie flip the fraction, change the sign) of the original line's slope. eg if the first line has slope m = 2, the perp. line must have slope -1/2 What's the slope of your line, y=4/9x -2 ?

OpenStudy (otonogold):

What about the (4,3) @agent0smith

OpenStudy (otonogold):

So A is the answer? @agent0smith
