i dont understand the question fully, but back in medieval times African kings segregated Muslims then put Islam with there local traditions. Then they tried to get rid of all the practices of different religions and put Sharia into effect

Dont really understand the first one, my best guess would be Gao? But Songhai is the empire.. Gao is just the Empires Capital..
And the second question I think, would be Songhai? I'm not sure about those two.. sorry..
