The explicit formula for the nth term of an arithmetic sequence is an = a1 + (n - 1) d. What is the simple formula corresponding to the explicit formula if the first term of the sequence is -10 and the difference between terms in the sequence is 3?

OpenStudy (john_es):

Make a1=-10, and d=3, and substitute in the formula you give.

OpenStudy (john_es):

Then simplifies.

OpenStudy (john_es):

\[a_1=-10+3(n-1)=3n-13\]

I'm gonna give you a harder one kay...?

OpenStudy (john_es):

Ok, we'll try. ;)
