what is the solution of the equation |2x + 8|= -14?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone show me how to do this plz?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know it is no solution but how do I get there?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

|2x + 8| the vertical lines mean the absolute value of 2x + 8 or we we say mod 2x+ 8 that means whether 2x + 8 is a negative or positive value it is taken as being positive thus |x| is equal to 5 whether x = 5 or -5.

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

in other words |x| can never be negative
