How do you estimate using compatible numbers at 5th grade level

they're basically 'scary' looking numbers rounded to the nearest 'friendly' number.. like if you have to multiply 242 * 397 then you round 200*400 to get a rough estimate of what the initial question.

so for fifth graders, maybe print out like a 'scary number' on paper surrounded by a playful monster or something.. and the friendly number would be associated with something friendly.. like a smile :)
