In my workbook they asked me to work out: 1/2 x 2/3. My answer is 2/6. But in the answers page they said it's 1/3. If they are correct how did they work it out?

You're actually doing it on the right path. The only error is that 2/6 is not yet in its lowest term. Take note that they are both divisible by 2. So dividing 2 and 6 by 2, we will arrive at 1/3. Got it?

a Set is properly defined by having none of its elements repeated. The set of rational numbers does not properly have the construction 2/6, since it is equivalent to 1/3.

1/2 x 2/3 = 2/6 which reduces to 1/3
