If I get this wrong I'm sorry, I'm not great at U.S History.. But back in the 1800s Male immigrants experienced a lot of hard labor, especially kids. The females didn't have many rights still as well as African Americans. Women weren't allowed to vote until the 1880s but even then they could only vote on some degrees. Men worked in coal mines etc and hardly got paid, most immigrants lived in shanty's in ghetto areas
