3x-2y=6 solve

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You can't solve a single equatuion with two variables and find a solution. You can solve an equation with 2 variables for one of the variables.

Because you have two unknowns (x and y) and only one equation, you cannot get a number answer for x. You can only solve for x in terms of y. . To get the answer for x, first get rid of the term on the left side that contains the y. Do this by adding +2y to both sides. On the left side the -2y and the added +2y cancel each other out. On the right side the addition of +2y results in 2y + 6. So the equation becomes: 3x=y+6
