can someone please help me with algebra i don't get it :)

OpenStudy (dobby1):

What is your question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is what it says: Fill in the missing term so that the quadratic equation has a graph that opens up, with a vertex of (– 3, – 25), and x intercepts at x = -8 and x = 2. (Do not include the negative sign in your answer.) y = x2 + 6x − ___ Numerical Answers Expected!

OpenStudy (dobby1):

@zepdrix he can probably help but Idk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thnx

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zepdrix can please help me on the question above?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

sorry I could not help here so here is a medal for your inconvenience

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thnx @Dobby1

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Sorry I have a test in a couple hours :'c I really really really need to cram. I'll come back later if you're still stuck on this. I'm sure you can find a smarty pants to help you out by then though c: hehe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thnx do you know someone who can help? @zepdrix

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Dobby1 can you help me with other questions?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

I can try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using graphing technology, approximate the solutions of 0.91x2 − 0.54x − 4.9 = 0. x ≈ −2.32 and x ≈ 2.56 x ≈ −2.14 and x ≈ 2.44 x ≈ −2.18 and x ≈ 2.53 x ≈ −2.04 and x ≈ 2.64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Hero can you try and see if you can help me with the first question please?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

@ganeshie8 @mathstudent55

hero (hero):

Let the unknown value = d y = x2 + 6x − d Input the vertex (x,y) = (-3,-25): -25 = (-3)^2 + 6(-3) - d -25 = 9 - 18 - d 0 = 9 + 25 - 18 - d 0 = 34 - 18 - d 0 = 16 - d d = 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that for the first one sir?

hero (hero):

Thus the equation is y = x^2 + 6x - 16

hero (hero):

For the second one, use a graphing calculator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i do not have one sir

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh nevermind i found one can you help with this one? Identify the solutions of 3x2 − 7x + 4 = 0.

hero (hero):

Use an online graphing calculator such as http://www.desmos.com

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Identify the solutions of 3x2 − 7x + 4 = 0 do you know this one? and do you need answer choices for it?

hero (hero):

Did you try using that graphing calculator? No, I can figure all of these out without a calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um no i was going to do it later if you want you can help me

hero (hero):

Okay, try factoring it. Find two numbers such that: \(m \times n = 12\) and \(m + n = -7\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any two numbers sir?

hero (hero):

any two numbers that agrees with both equations, yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

give e a second to think of it please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3 and -4 i bielieve because a negative and a negative is a positive and -3 + -4 = -7 correct?

hero (hero):

Okay, good, now replace -3 - 4 = -7 in the equation: 3x^2 -3x - 4x + 4 = 0 Now factor by grouping.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x^2 - 7x + 4 = 0?

hero (hero):

We already had that originally. We replaced -7x with -3x + -4x so that we can factor by grouping.

hero (hero):

Factor this: 3x^2 -3x - 4x + 4 = 0 by grouping

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so is it 4x^3 + 4 = 0?

hero (hero):

No. I suppose you don't know how to factor.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait is it -4x^2 + 4?

hero (hero):

You can't do these if you don't know how to factor. There's no point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help me sir teach me whenever there is an exponent involved i get lost

hero (hero):

Your best bet is to practice on a site like this: http://www.ixl.com/math/algebra-1/factor-by-grouping

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you will not help me?

hero (hero):

I can't really help right now. I have other stuff to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you just give me the answer really quick sir?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is my question and answer choices Identify the solutions of 3x2 − 7x + 4 = 0. x = −1 over 3, x = −4 x = 1 over 3, x = 4 x = −4 over 3, x = −1 x = 4 over 3, x = 1
