how is the function y=x-3 related to y=x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same function but y= x-3 is shifted down 3 units so the intercept is no longer at the origin but rather at y=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how would i graph the function by translating the parent function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so graph y=x (parent function) then move every point on the line down 3 units. voila.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so the next problem is y=x+4.5 so it shifts up 4.5? correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

thank you
