why doesn't light as an energy form require a medium for propagation? and what are mediums and propagations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think about it, we can see sunlight even though there is empty space between us and it, so no there does not have to be a medium for light to travel. 1) I would think that it would travel indefinitely and the speed of light (299,792,458 meters per second) 2) The answer to the above is positive, because both the light from the sun and the light from the torch emit waves of light even though the sun also emits UV Rays in addition to white light that can be emitted through empty space. Just something quick to add, sound, I believe sound cannot travel through empty space.

Is light distributed through waves? I thought it was propagated through photons (little packets of energy/light)

OpenStudy (rock_mit182):

light behaves like a particle (photon, packets of energy) and at the same time as a wave. # Quantum mechanics ;)
