I need to balance this equation but I have no idea where to start! NaOH(aq) + NaNO2 (aq) + Al(s) + H2O(1) --> NH3 (aq) + NaAlO2 (aq)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start by noticing 2 Na's on the left and 1 on the right. This can be fixed by making is 2NaAlO2. that Al is now easy to fix. now recount :)

I'm a little lost with the (aq)'s and (s)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can ignore them. 1 liquid mole = 1 solid mole

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aqueous implies a solid dissolved in water

ok got the question correct. Thanks for all the help!
