Need explanations as to why these are right or wrong?
Okay, so I failed this test, and my teacher wants me to do ocrrections, but he wants me to do a step by step explanation on all of them I got wrong. can anyone help me explain it?
1. Which of the following coordinates most closely matches point E? A. -15 B. 15 (wrong) C. -17 (right) D. 17
Assume the length from one coordinate to the next on the number line 1 cm. 2.What is the approximate length of the line segment joining points F and I? A. 24 cm (Right) B. 34 cm C. 4 cm (wrong) D. 14 cm
4. Which of the following is true about the measure of segment EF? A. It is negative. (Wrong) B. It is less than the measure of segment HI. C. It is positive. (right) D. It is equal to the measure of segment HI.
If you can help with any of these, it would be very appreciated :)
For #1: Point E is on the left side of zero thus meaning negative. So now just count left from zero and you get -17. For #2: You have point F located at -10 and Point I located at 14 and then it asks you for the length of the two points together so The distance between 0 and -10 is 10 cm and the distance between 0 and Point I is 14 cm. Thus just combine both of them (10+14) to get 24 cm. For #3: It asks what is true about the LENGTH of segment EF so you know any length of something can't be negative (For example, can't be -6 feet tall). It can't be less or equal to segment HI because EF is longer (HI = 6, EF = 7). So finally, since the length of EF is 7 its positive. Hope this helps and Good Luck :)
Thanks so much!
