OpenStudy (yttrium):

The range of a projectile thrown horizontally is said to be dependent to the following quantities 'R'~f(v. H, g, m). Derive an expression for R in terms of v, H, g and m. (I got R = V^2/g but I know if I am just correct because I don't really know the formula for the range of projectiles, can somebody verify?) Thanks!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Dont you think range should depend on Height from which u throw the object horizontally ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

|dw:1380097325407:dw|

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Yes. I know that, but we are required to depend our solution using dimensional analysis.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

then its ral easy, just match left side dimensions wid right side

OpenStudy (yttrium):

No. Expression is really not give, expression is what we need to find.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

clearly, in ur equation, left side units are not matching right side

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

I get the question. you need to start wid some function, and tweak the units to matchup

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

??

OpenStudy (yttrium):

Is this what you mean [R] = L [v] = LT^-1 something like this?
