My phone's touch screen digitizer is unresponsive on some strips of the screen. Any smartphone experts here?
This is a screenshot of a draw test. The problem occurred about 3 weeks after I replaced a cracked screen. I did try the old screen and it shows the same problem so I'm trying to figure out if this is a software problem or a hardware (other than the screen) problem. Any ideas?
I have seen similar things on laptops I have worked on, though for video rather than input. That sounds like the connections for that area are not working properly. Look at where the ribbon cables connect and see if it is damaged or got a little crud in it. One loose solder point could easily do something like this.
They're not always (all 5) unresponsive, but sometimes 2 or 3 of those do work (it varies which of the 5 works). The touchscreen is really slow sometimes and can freeze (while the screen works just fine). Also sometimes the digitizer registers a huge amount of "touches" everywhere when I don't even hold the phone. I checked the digitizer pop connector but there seems to be nothing wrong with it. I fear that the problem is in the phone's motherboard.
Which is never good.
And without some pretty good test equipment and the wiring diagram it is hard to evaluate the connections.
