In my workbook they've asked me to work out: 1/2 + 2/3. I have worked it out by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the other fractions denominator and visa versa. The result is 7/6. On the answer page it has 7/6 or 1 1/6. How do they arrive to an alternative answer to 7/6?

OpenStudy (plainntall):

7/6 can be expressed as a mixed fraction (a mix of whole numbers and fractions) by dividing the numerator by the denominator and putting the remainder above the denaminator as the remaining faction 7/6 = 6/6+1/6 or 1 1/6.
