first to the multiplications: 8x+6x-6=12x+3 rearrange all the unknowns on one side numbers on the other side: 8x+6x-12x=6+3 Then just add/subtract: 2x=9 Since the unknown has to be by itself, you need to divide both sides by 2: 2x/2=9/2 which equals.... x=4.5 and voila! :D
