How does a universal genetic code relate to the hypotheses about the origin of life on Earth? @Compassionate

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Species with similar genes have common ancestors.

Alright.. I have one more if that's okay.

Sorry, I was on the phone. I don't understand what this question is asking: How might similarities and differences in genetic codes, or the proteins built as a result of these codes, be used to determine how closely related different species are?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Common genetic code, my dear. You see, species mutated within the same time era will have that genetic code. As time passes, mutation continues to occur, and species' genetic code will change slightly. The species born in 2010 will be more related to each other than the species born in 9999 because of mutations in the genetic code.

Oh, okay. Thank you. :)
