you just need to substitute the numbers into the letters. Since a=1 and b=2: 5[1+3(2)]/1(2) So you need multiply (the ones inside the brackets first: 5(1+6)/1(2) Then just multiply/ add in the brackets first: 5(7)/2 And then multiply the last one: 35/2 That would be the answer in improper fraction but if you need to simplify it, it would be: 17 1/2 :D

what about Translate the word of phrase into a variable expression. The quotient of a number and 6 is increased by 1.

what do you mean? since a=1 and 3b= 3 x 2 is 6, you will have to add them first because according to BEDMAS, you have to brackets first before dividing
