I need help with this problem...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A cosmetics manufacturer’s marketing department has developed a linear trend equation that can be used to predict annual sales of its popular Hand & Foot Cream. Ft = 90 + 10t where Ft = Annual Sales (000 bottles) t = 0 corresponds to 1990 a. Are annual sales increasing or decreasing? By how much?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@satellite73

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the larger \(t\) is, the larger \(f(t)\) is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

increasing because the slope is 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, I can't figure by how much though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think there is a typo here Ft = Annual Sales (000 bottles)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what should that line be above, it doesn't make any sense

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i found a similar prob on the internet: http://hodgesh.people.cofc.edu/DSCI304/Solutions/05%20Solutions.pdf

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its on page 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just rewrite that line and we can figure it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's F subscript t = 90 + 10t

OpenStudy (anonymous):

t = period

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i see 000 means a thousand bottles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

weird in any case the answer would be \(10,000\) per year, because you are multiplying by 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i tried that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cause in the other example with the answer it's 15t and the answer is 15,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah looks good to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not right tho

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah. ok, this is what the hw website looks like: (it's a fill in the blank) Annual sales are ____ by ___ thousands bottles per year.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

increasing by 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was sure i tried that but obviously not cause that's right, thanks. i feel slow know.
