Mr. Hewitt, Mrs. Hoffman, and Mrs. Chisholm are engaged in a laser tag battle. Their lasers have a maximum range of 16 feet... The laser tag arena has green laser lines that, the teachers notice, create a coordinate grid of the playing field. Mr. Hewitt is caught unaware that Mrs. Hoffman and Mrs. Chisholm each have a direct line to where he stands, but for Mrs. Chisholm to take the shot, she will have to give up her cover. Mr.s Hoffman has not yet seen her, but the moment she steps out to get Mr. Hewitt, that Mrs. Hoffman will try to eliminate her form the field.

Mr. Hewitt is standing at (0,0) on the coordinate grid. Mrs. Hoffman is at (8,13) and Mrs. Chisholm is at (-3,1). Why is Mrs. Chisholm certain of her decision?

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Perhaps you should find the distance between Hoffman and Chisholm. (In fact, you don't really even need to know the EXACT distance... only whether Chisholm is within range to be hit by Hoffman).
