Is 22 miles per gallon a unit rate?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well say you have a car, if you want to drive say 44 miles and your car gasoline tank is empty you won't go far, right? so what do you need to do to have the car going? well, fill up the tank, with GALLONS of gasoline say you put 10 gallons in it, and then you drive up the 44 miles once you arrive there, you notice you spend 2 gallons of gasoline you started driving with 10 gallons in the tank, now there are only 8 gallons in 44miles you drove, you spend 2 gallons so the car uses 1 gallon of gasoline for every 22 miles, or it covers, 22 miles per gallon it's a unit of rate, to check how effective the vehicle uses the fuel
