What does it mean for a number to be the "solution" to an equation? Give an example of an equation and its solution. Explain in complete sentences how you know that number is the solution.

A statement such as 3x^2 - 4 = 12 is called a CONDITIONAL statement. It is TRUE ONLY if we select the correct values for x. It is just these correct values that are called "solutions".
